My donation went to the Coeur d’ Alene Charter Academy. The school opened in 1999 and has continued to raise the bar in academic excellence. They have been ranked as one of the top schools in the nation by Newsweek, US News and World Report, Businessweek and others. Charter is a public school that is free to “any student willing to accept the challenge”. The school boasts a 98% graduation rate, with 100% of graduates college bound. Continue reading

I chose the Starlight Children’s Foundation Northwest for my donation. They provide a wide variety of help and support for children who are diagnosed with a serious illness. Their primary mission is to help the whole family and lift their spirits. Over 7,000 Northwest families each month receive help from Starlight through a variety of programs including kid friendly treatment rooms, special events and family activities and outings. My wife and I are both huge dog people. My family has had about nine dogs over the course of my life. We have a really hard time stomaching the fact that lots of dogs don’t have homes, are abused, neglected, and put to sleep all the time. We just don’t understand how heartless some people can be to animals. We have a miniature pincher named Bits and miniature dachshund named Munchy. We have a bit of a sweet spot in our hearts for dachshunds, even though they are a breed well known for expensive health problems if not cared for properly. Continue reading
Once again, our family decided to pick Heifer International (http://www.heifer.org ) as our charity again this year for a few reasons. Firstly, they’re a great organization that’s dedicated to fighting world hunger and poverty by following the “Teach a Man to Fish” principle combined with paying it forward. Continue reading
I chose to give my donation to a program that the Clarkston Fire Department participates in each holiday season, which helps provide bicycles to kids who don’t have a form of transportation to school and who wouldn’t otherwise receive a gift at Christmas.

It was difficult to decide which charity to contribute to this year, since there are so many organizations that help people in need. At the end of the day there was one group that really resonated with me. That group is the Trevor Project.
The Trevor project is the only organization that provides a 24hr toll free suicide prevention hotline for gay and questioning youth. It is staffed by trained volunteer counselors that can provide some support these young people are missing in their lives. Continue reading

Like many others in the office, I too have a soft-spot for critters. Having pets is truly a blessing and is an aspect of my life that I am very thankful for. So, I also decided to give to SCRAPS (Spokane Country Regional Animal Protection Service) again this year.
Sebastian and I put our money and skills together to help out 2 different organizations this year: Blue Button (http://bluebutton.org/) and Spokane Youth for Christ (http://spokaneyfc.org/). Each organization work with kids mostly from the Hillyard and West Central neighborhoods. West Central is the poorest neighborhood in Spokane and Hillyard is the poorest zip code in the state.
